✴️PROTECT YOURSELF & BE AWARE of COVID-19 Frauds & Scams✴️

Because of who you are & what we are, we want to help you. Members of the BOAA have reached out as they have recently been affected by frauds & scams such as the ones below. We urge you to protect yourself and be aware of:

🚫Random lottery giveaways for COVID-19 – or any links associated with “winnings”
🚫Spoofed government, healthcare or research information
🚫Unsolicited calls, emails and texts giving medical advice or requesting urgent action or payment
🚫Unauthorized or fraudulent charities requesting money for victims, products or research – don’t be pressured into making a donation & always verify that a charity is registered
🚫High-priced or low-quality products purchased in bulk by consumers and resold for profit – these items may be expired and/or dangerous to your health
🚫Questionable offers, such as: miracle cures, herbal remedies, vaccinations, faster testing
🚫Fake and deceptive online ads, including: cleaning products, hand sanitizers, other items in high demand
🚫Cleaning and heating companies offering duct cleaning services or air filters to protect from COVID-19.
🚫Local and provincial hydro/electrical power companies threatening to disconnect your power for non-payment.
🚫Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, or the World Health Organization, offering fake lists for sale of COVID-19 infected people in your neighbourhood.
🚫Public Health Agency of Canada giving false results saying you have been tested positive for COVID-19 and/or tricking people into confirming health card/credit card numbers for a prescription.
🚫Red Cross (and other known charities) offering free medical products, like masks, for a donation.
🚫Government departments sending out COVID-19 themed phishing emails, tricking you into opening malicious attachments and/or revealing sensitive personal and financial details.
🚫Financial advisors pressuring people to invest in hot new stocks related to COVID-19 and/or offering financial aid/loads to help you get through the shut downs.
🚫Door-to-door sales people selling household decontamination services.
🚫Private companies selling fast COVID-19 tests and fraudulent products that claim to treat or prevent the virus.

October 28, 2022Blog PostsDear Members, Many of you were issued credit notes in 2020 when BOAA closed our doors due to the COVID-19 lockdown. It is wonderful to be in a much better place today – with our door open and events happening more regularly. Many individuals who were issued credits in 2020 have since used them or donated them back to BOAA. Thank you for doing so. We do however have quite a few outstanding credit notes from 2020 that we need to settle. We would ask you to please use any outstanding 2020 credit notes on programming or consider donating funds back to BOAA. If you donate them, you will receive a charitable donation receipt -see Stella Riccio x46. If you have not used or donated your credit note from 2020 back to BOAA by November 15, 2022, it will be void. We appreciate your understanding and support as always. Any recent credit notes (from 2021/2022) will continue to be honoured. Please consider:Carpooling Booking Wheels In Action (24 hours + in advance) Getting a ride where possible. Parking in the community and walking to the centre (If you are an able bodied) to allow for those with accessibility needs to utilize the parking spots. Coming early for programs to plan ahead for parking. Being courteous of our neighbours when parking on the road, making sure you don’t block driveways or access.Thank you for your patience around parking.
